Lets talk about HAPPINESS today. Not the happiness caused by lifechanging events such as falling in love or becoming a parent. No, let’s talk about small, everyday things, that bring us joy, yet we often take them for granted. So here is my list.
1. Tidy House.
The objective of cleaning is not just to clean, but to feel happiness living within that environment. -Marie Kondo
It is next to impossible to have house perfectly clean when you have a dog and children, but when it is, I feel so happy! It’s so relaxing to be in the tidy and organised space.
Books are not only escapism or the source of knowledge, they are reliable friends and fun pastime. Books are amazing gift, even when they aren’t new. Books give us the world to travel and many lives to live, everything is possible in the magical world of books- and that makes me so happy! The happiness is… Books!
There is no friend as loyal as a book. — Ernest Hemingway
3. Quiet and Solitude.
Quiet time is very important for me, that is how I recharge. It is not always easy to find the opportunity for it, especially now, when I have children, and my day is full of activities and noise. But every evening, when kids are asleep, I spend 2-3 hours, doing something that I like to do, without distraction and noise. I read or do soul searching, make crafts or tidy the closet. It does not even matter what I do, as long as it is quiet and peaceful, it fills the jug, of which, later, I can serve my family with love.
Happiness and nature go hand in hand. Fresh air, beautiful scenery and some exercise will bring joyful feeling to the tired body and soul.
One of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between Man and the Nature shall not be broken. -Leo Tolstoy
Good laugh makes me happy, there is science behind it, with long and detailed explanation of how hormones work, I will not bore you with that, but I will tell you this much, spend time with your friends, watch funny movie or read book that makes you laugh out loud, and see for yourself, does it make you happy? (it works for me.)
6. Relaxed Mornings.
Nothing makes me more miserable than rushed mornings, busy schedule, getting ready to leave the house within minutes of waking up, having to be in-time somewhere, before dinner, getting ready under pressure of time is a nightmare for the night owl, who often stays up until 3am. So, if I have to wake up at 8am, because that is when my kids wake up, I want to go to the kitchen in my pyjama, make cup of coffee and sip it very slowly, while looking out the window and eventually check my mail, news and social media. Slow, relaxed morning is a perfect way to start a day, as a SAHM I enjoy this luxury.
7. Healthy Food and Supplements.
Did you know that depression sometimes is caused by chemical imbalance in the body. The old saying- “You are what you eat” is true, if you eat bad food you will feel bad. I have noticed that healthy diet, vitamins, minerals and plenty of water make huge difference for me. I have more energy, my nervous system is stronger, my whole body thrives.
8. To Be Authentic Me and Stop Comparing.
When I compare myself to others, I get the feeling that my life lacks something, that I am not enough in this way or that. I get insecure and sad. I do not need this kind of negativity about myself and my life. I do not need the seed of envy in my heart. The best thing is to embrace yourself with all the imperfection, to love your life and to stop comparing.
9. To Finish Old Project.
I am the whirlpool of ideas, so much to do so little time. There are dozens of unfinished projects waiting for my attention. It is such a satisfaction to finish them one by one. It brings me joy and gratification to see the end result and to stripe that project of my to so list.
10. To Step Outside My Comfort Zone.
This one is tricky, because I hate starting something new, unknown, something I know nothing about and often am bad at it. It makes me feel small and insecure, but the end result is so worth it. Once I overpower my fear and actually step outside my comfort zone, I feel so proud of myself and happy for doing it.
Kindness makes me happy. Every little act of kindness is like a flower blossoming in my heart. Kind deed, kind word, kind gesture, by me or by the stranger on the street, or by my loved one, every single act of kindness no matter how small, makes this world a better place and brings happiness to the giver and to receiver alike.
12. When I look beautiful.
Those days, when I make an effort to look pretty, when I put on lovely dress and my hair looks shiny and styled nice, I feel feminine, I feel beautiful and I feel happy. I know it may sound cheesy, but that is how I feel. And I have spoken to many women, who feel the same. I do not say, that we have to do it for someone else, but what I say is, that when I dress up for myself, I feel amazing. Of course It doesn’t harm to see the sparkle in my partners eyes…
So these are the 12 things, that make me happy. Additionally I would like to share with you this special quote from Leo Tolstoy, which explains Happiness meaning so well-
A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one’s neighbour — such is my idea of happiness. – Leo Tolstoy
So that’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed this post. What do you think about 12 things that make me happy? Are they similar to yours or completely different? Share in comments.
